Walking on sunshine

Happy News
Rodney Smith Jr. is a man on a mission to help the elderly, disabled, single moms and vets by mowing their lawns for free. He’s currently traveling cross country to mow 50 lawns in 50 states (again) and is asking kids to join him in his pursuit by signing up for the 50 Yard Challenge, which asks girls and boys to mow 50 lawns for free. Since 2016, 12 kids have completed the challenge, and 130 kids are currently trying. Even the Queen of England took notice and is getting kids across the pond involved!

Summer Solstice is Thursday! A day to celebrate lavish abundance as the sun shares her life-giving power for the longest stretch of time all year. Use the summer solstice to honor all that has grown and blossomed for you and everything that helped you get here since the winter solstice back in December.

If you’re feeling stuck, don’t forget to play! Laughter and joy could be just the thing to snap you out of a slump and back into creative productivity. Your goal: Make magic every day. Start by imagining that your morning coffee or tea is filled with love! Or prosperity! Or health! Invite your rituals (even if it’s your daily commute) to nourish you by finding a way to celebrate yourself or your day.

Journaling prompt: What experiences do I want to draw into my life over the next six months? Do I need to adjust my self-care routines to honor myself, my needs and goals more fully?

Love yo’self
This article is a beautiful reminder that self-care can be more than manicures and bubble baths! Your self-care is “purely yours” and anything you want it to be. Maybe it’s listening to your favorite tunes on your commute into work or a calming deep breath before a presentation. “If you are out there taking intentional time to love on you, to be kind to your body, and to give back to yourself in some way… celebrate that.”

When you feel like you’re dropping the ball...
There could be a scientific reason why. Our working memory can only retain up to 5 things at any given time successfully. Anything over that overwhelms the brain, knocking it out of sync and causing its dialogue to break down. This makes prioritizing really important. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to remember everything, but try writing it down instead and choosing your first few focus areas, then move on to the next. Know your limit, and be vocal when there’s just too much on your plate. You were never meant to do it all!

You can also help keep your brain healthy with B vitamins, a healthy gut and taking active steps to reduce stress like meditation.

But everybody’s stressed...
Good thing we’re starting to understand the endocannabinoid system… (say what?!) It’s a system that was discovered while studying marijuana that plays a major role in the way the body responds to stress, and everyone’s got one.

Compounds like CBD, THC, hops and even Rosemary interact with it, and diseases like arthritis, depression, IBS and migraines have been connected to a faulty system. Lots of the serious health problems out there today are caused by stress, and the recent cannabinoid revolution could be just the trick to widespread health and happiness.

When it gets buggy…
Get crafty with this DIY natural bug spray. No bites, no chemicals, win win.

So hot right now
Naked sunbathing. Vitamin D + Sun Power = vibrant energy where the sun doesn’t normally shine.

Urban glamping. If dirt, bugs and sleeping bags aren’t really your “thing”, try disconnecting under the stars atop a luxury hotel instead.

“Keep your face always toward the sunshine
and the shadows will fall behind you.”
